How Do You Make Crispy Potato Twisters at Home?

1. Prepare the Potatoes

Place a potato horizontally on a chopping board. Keep two wooden skewers, chopsticks, or even two sturdy sticks parallel to the potato, one on each side. These will stop the knife from cutting all the way through.

Using a sharp knife, make thin, closely spaced cuts across the potato, slicing down until the knife touches the sticks. Keep moving from one end to the other without cutting through the potato. Once done, gently pull the potato apart so the cuts open up into a spiral.

Tip: Keep the cuts close together for a better twister effect, and be careful while handling the knife. The sticks act as a simple guide so you don't accidentally cut the potato all the way through.

l2. Prepare the Coating

In a bowl, combine cornflour, rice flour, red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder, chaat masala and salt.

Add lemon juice and a little water.

Mix until you get a light, thick coating.

The mixture should cling to the potato without becoming overly thick.

3. Coat the Potato Spirals

Place each potato spiral into the coating mixture.

Gently turn it so that the potato is lightly coated on all sides.

Avoid applying too much coating. A thin layer gives the twisters a crispier finish.

4. Fry the Potato Twisters in Purti Oil

Heat enough Purti edible oil in a deep pan over medium heat.

Once the oil is hot, carefully lower the coated potato spirals into it.

Do not overcrowd the pan. Fry them in batches if required.

Cook over medium heat, turning occasionally, until the potato spirals become golden brown and crisp on the outside.

The key is to maintain a steady temperature. If the oil is too hot, the coating can brown before the potato cooks through.

Once crisp and golden, remove the twisters using a slotted spoon and place them on kitchen paper to drain any excess oil.

Repeat with the remaining potato spirals.

5. Make the Coriander-Mint Dip

Add fresh coriander, mint leaves, curd, roasted cumin powder, lemon juice, salt and green chilli to a blender.

Blend until smooth.

Transfer to a serving bowl.

The cool, fresh dip pairs beautifully with the hot and crispy potato twisters.

6. Add the Festive Finish

Arrange the crispy potato twisters on a serving platter.

Sprinkle them with chaat masala and a little roasted cumin powder.

Add fresh coriander and a few pomegranate seeds for a pop of colour. This is completely optional.

Serve immediately with the coriander-mint dip.

Your festive 10-minute snack is ready.

What Makes Potato Twisters Perfect for Festive Snacking?

Sometimes, it is the way a familiar ingredient is presented that makes it exciting.

Potatoes are an everyday favourite, but turning them into long, golden spirals gives this simple ingredient a completely different personality.

The crispy texture, chaat masala seasoning and fresh coriander-mint dip give the snack familiar Indian flavours, while the spiral shape makes it fun enough to stand out on a festive platter.

And because the potato twisters are cooked in Purti edible oil, the frying is an important part of creating that crisp, golden texture.

What Can You Serve With Potato Twisters?

These crispy potato twisters pair particularly well with fresh dips and chutneys.

Try serving them with:

  • Coriander-mint curd dip

  • Sweet tamarind-date chutney

  • Fresh coriander chutney

  • Tomato ketchup

  • Spiced yoghurt dip

For a festive platter, serve two different dips alongside the twisters so guests can choose their favourite.

Festive cooking is not always about complicated recipes.

These Crispy Potato Twisters do exactly that.

Spiral-cut potatoes, a light spiced coating and a hot fry in Purti edible oil come together to create a golden, crunchy snack that is easy to share and even more fun to eat.

So, when guests arrive in 10, you don't need to panic.

Just spiral, fry, season and serve.

Purti, making every festive moment delicious.
